Shewsy Summer Fair
I would like to say a big thank you to all those people who attended the Shewsy Summer Fair on 25th June and a big well done to all the staff and volunteers who contributed in so many ways. Additions to last year’s stalls and activities included a climbing wall, coconut shy, beauty salon and crazy golf. It was great to see so many members of the community coming together and having a good time. The day was also one of sadness as local resident Joe Adams suffered a heart attack in the club and passed away the following day in hospital with his family at his bedside. Our deepest sympathies and thoughts go to Joe’s family and friends.
I would like to say a massive thanks to; NSG for building our fabulous stage, Wates Construction for supplying volunteers who worked tirelessly the day before the Fair, Stewart Dennett and Hannah Foods for supplying burgers/sausages/buns/sundries, U R What U Eat for a barrow full of fruit, Dot Harrison for organising the Bric-a-Brac and donating prizes, Alan Wright and Waverley TBS for loan of beer coolers, and to LHT who donated £300 towards the running costs of the event. I would also like to thank the following organisations for donating the excellent prizes on offer in the raffle.
John Lewis Group Liverpool Youth Service Sainsbury’s Rice Lane

Big Christmas Bonus Present lands in the Shewsy
The club has received a wonderful windfall Christmas bonus present in the form of a donation of £5,000 from NSGUK, the national scaffolding company.
The donation to the Shewsy is to mark 1 million hours of incident free work time by NSGUK, which is a significant landmark and huge achievement within the industry.
The company have also engaged with the youth club in an innovative training and apprenticeship scheme throughout 2010. Youth club members are offered a free 12 week training scheme laid on by the company and are then able to seek work within NSG and other scaffolding companies.
To date two club members have completed the course and both have been taken on into full time employment with NSG.
Commenting on the scheme, ex Shewsy club member and area supervisor at NSGUK Damien Cummings, said….”It is something I have always wanted to see set up. To put something back into the club which gave me and a load of others a start in life…. some sort of scheme whereby youngsters of today are able to get into constructive work. It’s hard enough for them to prove that they have the skills and energy to make their way in life and this scheme is giving them that chance.”
The cheque for £5,000 was handed over by the NSG directors to Everton Councillor Jane Corbett, Cabinet member for Education at a ceremony at Ineos, the Petrochemicals company in Runcorn, on Wednesday 22nd December.
There are hopes to develop the training scheme for more club members in 2011 if at all possible.
