A Shewsy team of Senior Club members took part in a competition at the Central Youth Club in Kensington hosted by LFC Foundation to make a bid for support for a social enterprise project at the Club.
The team decided to pitch the idea of a Youth Council at which Senior Club members of different ages would discuss how to ensure the young person’s voice is heard in discussions about current issues such as knife crime, fundraising for residential trips and making a positive contribution to our Youth Club and the local West Everton Community.
After listening to the pitches from a number of Youth Clubs, the LFC foundation judging panel announced the Shewsy as the Winners – and as a result LFC Foundation will now support the establishment and operation of the Shewsy’s new Youth Council.
Congratulations to Anna O’Brien, Joe May and Byron Stewart!

Visitors to the Shewsy since September will have noticed two new faces in Club. The Shewsy has been delighted to welcome Honor Cuckson and Lauren Pengilley to our team and their presence has been warmly enjoyed by all of our club members and staff.
Honor is in between her second and third years at Loughborough University where she is studying Criminology and is spending this year at The Shewsy as part of her course and is working in both Junior and Senior Clubs. She actually has a Shrewsbury connection as she was a student at Shrewsbury International School in Bangkok before coming to the UK for her university studies. She is a fantastic sportswoman and plays for Liverpool Feds FC.
Honor: “I am very much looking forward to the next couple of months here at The Shewsy. After only a short period of time here and having already built relationships with youth members, I am excited to see what is yet to come, with many upcoming opportunities and projects planned”
Lauren Pengilley is a local person currently studying for her Nursing qualification at Edge Hill University. She joined the Shewsy for a month to gain experience in a non-NHS environment before going back to her studies and exams. She has an amazing background having done brilliantly well at school and then spent a large part of the covid period on the respiratory wards at Aintree Hospital. She has thrown herself heart and soul into Club life and, from time to time, her nursing skills have been put to good use. We know that she will continue to be involved at the Shewsy as a volunteer.
Lauren: “I’ve had the best four weeks on placement and I can’t wait to come back as a volunteer. I will always be grateful to the Shewsy for allowing me to be a part of the club.”

A group of Senior Club members and staff recently headed off to Mam Tor in the Peak District on a Sponsored Walk to raise funds for the Summer Residential Trip Programme.
Joe May, Anna O’Brien Byron Stewart, Hallie Coleman, Shea Dumbell and Jake Connell set up a Go Fund Me campaign and have already raised £1,060 towards their target of £3,500.
In the pipeline is a fundraising Live Music event at the Club.
This has been great learning for everyone involved – with special thanks to Nic Coker and the team of youth workers who have been supporting.
