Steve Waterhouse

The Shewsy has bid a sad farewell to Steve Waterhouse who passed away on 8th February 2016. Steve was an amazing supporter of Shrewsbury House and his many and varied contributions are inspirational to those of us entrusted with continuing the youth and community work tradition.

His enthusiasm and commitment to events such as the Shewsy summer Fair and the Out of the Blue festival were remarkable. He was one of the first there and one of the last to leave and he often took the lead role in coordinating the many community events he was involved in. This years events will not be the same without him and his infectious enthusiasm and belief he brought to communities throughout the city will be sadly missed.

His formal role at Shrewsbury House was as a member of the Board of Management and also in a supervisory capacity offering support and guidance to the team leader. His knowledge, insights and observations were invaluable to those of us priveldged to have worked alongside him. His astute and often witty responses to problems were a calming influence that enabled perspective and clarity on many occasions. Steve was a friend, mentor, motivator, leader and epitomised the notion of teamwork.

Thanks for everything Steve…a quality human being.

New facilities

Some of you will know already that we have been hard at work improving the building and facilities in the past two years. We are now proud to offer a brand new fitness suite and a suite of 3 first class music rooms for the use of members.

The fitness suite has been created in the room next to the upstairs balcony , partly accomodated by the removal of the old photography room, which had fallen into disuse. It has good quality exercise machines and boxercise equipment available and there are regular classes held each week. The balcony now houses two full size snooker tables.

The new music suite has been created from the old showers and changing rooms area and provides excellent space and equipment for what is the most popular activity in the club at present. Guitar, Drums, Piano and Singing are taught and coached every evening and we hope to be able to add further equipment and more instruments in due course.
